The last four years have brought systematic roll-backs of hard-won federal protections for LGBTQ+ people across the country. So far, 2020 -- a year of clarity in the now rather than retrospectively -- has been a roller coaster ride in myriad ways, including the realm of LGBTQ+ federal rights. In a pleasantly surprising Bostock decision this summer, the US Supreme Court declared LGBTQ+ employees are protected under Title VII. But now SCOTUS is considering Fulton v. Philadelphia, a case that weighs religious freedoms against the right of LGBTQ+ people to foster children -- all with the Court's newly minted conservative majority. In this virtual CLE program, expert legal practitioners involved in these cases will explore where LGBTQ+ federal rights stand today and what may be in store for us with Fulton and the new makeup of the US Supreme Court.
